Tsavo East offers a vast hot and wild arena of arid bushland, washed by the meandering Galana River. Guarded by the limitless lava reaches of Yatta plateau and patrolled by some of the largest elephant herds in Kenya this is an area of unreliable rainfall and sparse vegetation.  Once famous for killer lions its once large herds of over 60,000 Elephants had been depleted due to poaching and drought.
