Dolphins
Swimming with dolphins has been recognized as one of life’s special moments and medically challenged non-swimmers derive enormous benefit and pleasure from this most natural and uplifting experience.
However excessive commercialization in some countries has sadly led to dolphin abuse and today it is recognized that it is unethical to feed and deliberately jump into the sea to ‘’play’’ with these engaging creatures.
Therefore along the Kenya Coast the rules require that if dolphins are present whilst you are in the boat, no one will jump in and swim. However should a school swim close to you whilst already in the water, it is permitted to stay in the sea and enjoy the experience provided a simple set of rules is followed. It is not, for example, permitted to feed the dolphins nor deliberately approach them.
The safe warm waters of the Kenya coast provide you with a unique opportunity to sail in a dhow off the south of Shimoni in the Kisite National Marine Park, branded by the Kenya Wildlife Service as the place to see dolphins and then swim with peaceful exotic colorful tropical fish around you and lovely live corals.
Seeing dolphins is never guaranteed as it requires calm conditions and dolphins in the mood to play. However it happens frequently and this excursion will be a day to remember. |
